Cornish,
Yes I have noticed the same thing. As a matter of fact, depression and other things such as fybromyalgia seem to hit the Witnesses harder too!
I know for myself, the stress level between an abusive husband and abusive elders contributed to my feeling very bad physically.
I actually thought I had MS for awhile. I had most of the symptoms. When the ex left. Things started to clear up. Including my blood pressure dropping twelve points in one month.
One by one most of the other sypmtoms I was experiencing disappeared as well.

JW's and Chronic Fatigue Syndrone!
by cornish inchronic fatigue syndrone, m e, yuppie flu.
.
i dont know if anyone else has noticed the alarming number of jws who claim to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrone,i mean hear in cornwall there tend to be several sufferers in every congregation, outside the jws out of the many people i know i dont know anyone, although there are obviosly many outside the jws who suffer this illness, percentage wise it seems that jws have a much, much larger occorance of the illness.. for example my brother in law has not worked and been living on invalidity benefits for more than 10 years since his mid twenties, his brother is also in the same boat, an m.e sufferer.. i wonder if anyone has looked into this a bit more?

Thinker showed me the TV Guide interview, and I told him it was a crock. I noticed the hour thing too. And definitely don't think the elders would have ever let him pioneer regardless of the hour requirement. Also I don't think his celebrity shedule would supported regular or auxiliary hours.
Plus, I distinctly remember an Awake or WT article in the late eighies or early ninties making it clear he was no longer a JW. Can't remember the exact wording or issue, so don't ask. But I do remember being the active witness I was at the time feeling distinctly relieved that the matter had been cleared up.
I was studying with someone at the time, who kept asking questions. She got baptized in the ninties, so it was probably that time period.

DA'd myself today
by Pierced Angel inwell, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.
so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.
they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.

"They went out from us but they were not of our sort". The Witnesses quote that scripture to discribe one's leaving them. It has a strange reverse comfort to me. I think you were not of their sort PA. Way to go. It gets easier.

active and happy jw
by scumgrief ini am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

SG,
Welcome to the board, and please excuse the repetition. But it is a breath of fresh air to me as well, that an active JW, can express themselves without being judgmental and belligerent.
I too was raised as a Witness. I went on a regualar basis to the congregation I was raised in, moved to where the need was greater in 1979, and then moved to where the need was even greater in 1981. I am sorry to say that in each of those congregations, I saw cliques, backbiting, and hypocrisy. And a serious inabiltiy on the part of the elders to be fair and impartial and merciful. My parents and two of my brothers are still in the org. One brother along with his wife are at the Farm. The other brother and his wife pioneered for a long while until children started coming along. Also much of my extended family is still in. I am sorry to say that those I personally know about have experienced much injustice. Although they still hold on to their faith, which I do not judge them for. Whatever works for them.
I do have a problem with the change of attitude I have seen in them since I decided I no longer wanted to carry the JW name. They refuse to talk to me, refuse to meet my husband who never was a JW and even apparently think he is evil according to the things they have said to me.
Just to touch on a few of the specific things you said. The third congregation I moved to was in WV. Which you probably know is big hunting country. An elder told me personally that there was one very fine brother who was being held back from responsibilities because he hunted for sport. In this same congregation, many were not used for various reasons ie. length of hair ect. Yet many who were very poor examples were used. I have seen this over and over again over the years.
I did move to another congregation before I called it quits. They were somewhat better on a personal level and in how they treated each other, but only to a point. Not enough to make me stay in. Even with the great loss of family and friends I knew I would experience if I decided not to remain a Witness.
I do wish you could be more specific about the lies about the WT that you referred to. I would be very interested to know what they are and why you considered them to be lies.
Thanks for being so peacable.

Don't cooperate with their SHUNNING you!
by bluesapphire inmy dub sister planned this little event to see the lion king.
she invited my two other sisters and their families and purposely left me out.
when my family asked about me, she just shrugged her shoulders -- the little hypocrite couldn't "stumble" them by telling them she was shunning her own sister.

Excellent!! That is exactly how I feel Blue Sapphire. I left because I no longer wanted to carry the name, why should I live by their tenents. (sp?)
If when I see someone I knew and I feel like saying hello, I do. If it was someone I really didn't have any use for while in I don't. My choice. Act like a normal human being, that is my motto. Why should we allow them to continue to control us by obeying their rules?

Cyngnas' story kind of reminds me of my own. Up until fourth grade I was third in the state. Then I got some bad teachers and a lot of kids making fun of me, and had the attitude that education didn't matter much, so I quit working. I was a B and C student with occasional A's when I couldn't help myself. Never studied and never put any extra work into it. That is a regret for me. Because now I am forty one with a high school degree and not enough time or money to further my education.
And of course my parents didn't encourage furthering it either. With the exception that Dad did talk about a trade school for awhile.
But I do have a pretty successful cleaning business. Just me and my vacuum. Never wanted the headaches of hiring. Have had some of my clients for twenty one years. Pretty much a fixture. It is a no stress way of making good money.
My dream though is to be a decorating consultant. Again lack of time and money is the problem. For years I have given my rich clients pointers for free. Lot's of homes with my signature, but no credit.

There is just something about a man who likes cats!! Simon, great minds must think alike. I brought two cats to Thinker and I's (bad English) union. They promptly abandoned me for Thinker. They absolutely worship the ground he walks on. Prissy is eighteen and very aptly named. Blossom is eight and I always say no flower.
We just adopted a baby who is somewhere around eight weeks old. His new name is Joey. He is a striped multi-colored tabby. Love him to death. Oh but Lord, it is just like having a baby, except for he can walk and run already!!
Congratulations! Good choice to get two. We had a hard time picking too. Wish we had a barn, probably would have a hundred.

TOO COOL!! But I feel left out. I think us ex JW's should have a chance to have a certificate too!! I would proudly display it as a badge of honor for winning the war! Kind of like a Purple Heart.
Thanks for posting this Lisa! Hysterically funny. Always an up side to everything!

BadWillie & Wife are the Local Needs!
by badwillie inlast night's meeting at our congregation was exactly 2 weeks since our public reproof.. my wife was in attendance.
the local needs talk was about...apostasy!.
this of course lets the congregation know exactly what our reproof was for.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! But at least one very good thing came out of it. Got your wife off the fence albiet the hard way!!!!! I always thought private reproof was circumvented by the lovely talk they always give, leaving no doubt in the R&F's mind about exactly what supposedly happened. Of course they forget that is totally the elder's take on the matter.
Welcome to the board Wactlars. So many people experiencing the same treatment. So sad.
